When ladies come in the house after running errands or maybe just 'out', have you noticed where they set thier purse down when they get in the house? Is it the dining room table or kitchen counter? Okay, you are a little more conservative and take it to the bedroom. It really doesn't matter where you set it down, but more important how to "Keep It Up" !
What you don't see, you don't worry about. Afterall our mothers and grandmothers got by just fine without the worry. Well, let me tell you, they didn't have the wide array of bacteria and the number of people bearing these unwanted 'gifts' traveling from every corner of the world. Most women carry a purse or handbag and don't think twice about setting it on a floor, then pick it up and it touches their clothes, hands and bacteria transfers quite readily. While we may know what's inside our handbags, do you have any idea what's on the outside?
It turns out handbags are so surprisingly dirty, even a microbiologist who tested them was shocked. The testing showed nearly all of the handbags tested were not only high in bacteria, but high in harmful kinds of bacteria. Pseudomonas can cause eye infections, staphylococcus aurous can cause serious skin infections, and salmonella and e-coli found on the handbags could make people very sick.
In one sampling, four out of five handbags tested positive for salmonella, and that's not the worst of it. There was faecal contamination on the handbags. Leather or vinyl handbags tended to be cleaner than cloth handbags, and lifestyle seemed to play a role. People with kids tended to have dirtier handbags than those without, with one exception.
The handbag of one single woman who frequented nightclubs had one of the worst contaminations of all. Some type of faeces, or possibly vomit.
